lft has already made a sizable impact on his gnarly, muscular brand of weathered electro and techno, and now hes been snapped up by zement to deliver another four rowdy roundhousers. nucleon channels the best of minimal wave and gives it a deadly dose of modern acid revelry that will incite fevered responses on the floor, while wounds takes things in a spookier b-movie direction without shaking off those powerful 303 demons. the cure for my kind manifests as a kind of nightmarish electro, and hypno haniwa takes another route into machine funk for malevolent souls, with stunning results.

dan shake is on a one-man mission to keep the party vibrant and interesting without losing that all-important impulse to move. his buy on sight shake label fires up once more with two fine-tuned heaters that have the peak of the night in their sights and a shot of pure disco coursing through their veins. -freak- takes its cues from 80s electronic disco embellished with a little acid magic and some serious heft in the production department to create a strutting, sassy party monster. -can t take it- finds shake in filter sweeping sample mode, taking a massive disco sample and strapping it to a rowdy, fist-pumping house undercarriage. this record is set to be huge this summer, no doubt about it.

tel avivs hectik and asaf samuel come with a vicious edit of a drunk and rowdy wedding classic. mexicos mufti takes the maserati into overdrive with his rework of an 80s heater. international waters wont be muddied by this unity of lust and fury.

as well as manning his own label duro, theus mago can be found slinging out heat on turbo, kill the dj and more recently ombra. the mexican producer returns to home turf for his latest transmission, serving up one original track with two killer remixes. -inertials- is a rowdy beast in its original form, tapping up a breakbeat roll, dirty wave synth stabs and plenty more sonic debris for a cut that spans a whole lot of styles and makes them gel together seamlessly. inigo vontier takes the original and makes it into a bone-rattling drum track to batter the crowd into submission very late on in the dance. jamie paton takes a different approach on the b-side, weaving a little tenderness into the mix with some elegant synth lines that offset the raw bite of the drums beautifully.

sami baha is a turkish producer based in south east london. his music was introduced to the world via his 2016 ep “mavericks” (planet mu), recorded while he was moving from istanbul to london where he’s now been living the last 3 years. sami got into producing through being a rapper himself, working with local rappers in turkey and producing beats for them, before setting his sights outside the country.
while his first record was focused around a more familiar trap based hiphop sound, “free for all” expands its range into more unfamiliar territory and also brings his production into focus by featuring a number of mcs from all corners of the globe: uk drill squad 67’s dimzy, stockholm’s yung lean and chicago rapper and singer dj nate (aka flexxbabii) who’s previously recorded on planet mu as a footwork producer. the record also features the rowdy sing-song of egyptian mcs dawsha and abanob from cairo whom sami met while on tour in egypt.

minuendo keep things interesting on this latest various artists 12-, primarily focusing on owen jay and brian james on the a side for two tracks of adventurous experimentation on the wild frontier of minimal house music. the wobbly synth running through -niko s groove- is a real head turner, while -imagery- nudges the grand tradition of dub house into a new pocket of ambience that draws you in immediately. there s a lovely, classic deep house joint from untitled called -seafood-, and then blue vulva & the electronic crooner completely flip the script on the b2 with rowdy acid burner -vulbitch bazaar-.

fragrant harbour once again dig out a cult gem from the seemingly endless vaults of 90s dance music, picking up on a rare and precious gem from a seminal laurent garnier mix and giving it the remaster and reissue it deserves. the artists responsible, broccoli brothers vs righteous men, hailed from germany and were trying to emulate mike dunn. -catch it (calm manoeuvre)- is a spaced out deep house track with all the gritty impact of a classic jam, while -catch it (jam)- gets decidedly rowdy with its hefty kick, jacked up swing and wonky bassline. on the b side -ruhrschnellweg (last exit stahlhausen mix)- brings a little detroit flavour into the mix with spectacular, uplifting results.

nyra continues to shine on his own canoe label, making the most of the creative freedom to show every side of his musicality. -take my hand- deserves to be huge, displaying a devilish instinct for a simple disco loop, a powerful vocal and a whiff of fist shaking new york house pressure that will leave its mark long after the club kicks out. -life is trippy- switches stance entirely with a snappy boogie-indebted jam for lighter moments. -on & on- meanwhile summons a rowdy detroit techno backbone that, paired with the bold disco licks, calls to mind the kind of fare dj bone can so expertly drop. -falling for love- maintains the fusion of rough and smooth with equally brilliant, party-starting results.

here is anothers second release, a 3 tracks ep from chicagos iconic house producer rick wade, who has reinvented himself in the recent years. this is quite obvious on this record which oscillates between old school and modernity, especially with the track be the one on b2, a futuristic deep house anthem. rick fans wont be disappointed ! dont sleep on this one. vinyl only !

chicago damn is the latest esteemed producer to shore up at marcel vogel s intimate friends label, following the hypoleon ep with some forthright, sample heavy funk house concoctions that nod to his other work on wolf music and the like. -bunny hoppin- is a rowdy but soulful belter with a peppy tempo and an addictive line in looped up samples, while -flush- takes things slower and dustier without getting too lost in the undergrowth. -the truth- lays its samples out in bold, bright brushstrokes with a pattering, psyched out undercurrent for deeper, sunkissed moments, and then -tipsy- finishes the ep off in a playful tryst of re-pitched piano trills and scuffed beats.

dj haus ever-expanding deviant house music empire continues to impress with another installment of house crime, this time committed by szch. the 12inch kicks off with the fast and freaky girl i neva which borders on juke levels of nagging sample chops, before the script gets crumpled up and tossed at the bin with the wonderfully scruffy rave deconstruction of peugeot 106 at sunrise (pingers mix). unconditional (edit) brings something a little smoother to the mix, although that underlying weirdness that comes with house crime releases is still lurking in the wings. ukljucen ti je blutut finishes the ep off in a rowdy yet reflective style long may the strange tale of house crime continue.

in keb darges own words: i ve done many a compilation in my day, mostly based around the tunes i played at my long running deep funk nights in madame jo jos. that night is no longer on the go, possibly due to a growing lack of interest on my part, (sorry). in the last few years the lost & found: nights at the club have been my real passion, and indeed little ediths and andy smiths passion too. what a marvelous era this is for good music. we may still have pure stuff like dub step: pulling in large numbers of sheep, but an equal number of youngsters are being attracted to retro, or at least retro sounding music. people tell me it is because the youth are fed up with computerized music, or men with drug problems angrily shouting at them over a dull repetitive beat, but i know lots of teenagers who have bypassed this muck all together. must be the internet that is helping kill off the demand for empty music. you no longer need to go to a retro club night, or indeed search out rare records to be exposed to good music, the internet is full of the stuff. my fifteen year old daughter is a marc bolan fan who while researching the poor fellows influences discovered chuck berry, sun records, etc, etc. i dont really know or understand why so many are at last getting into the good stuff, but they are, and it is wonderful for the likes of me.
